Em uma realidade marcada pela violência e por adoecimentos, a autoajuda pode ser um perigoso mecanismo de fuga e de fortalecimento das desigualdades. Ao mesmo tempo, a palavra autoajuda traz a ideia da autorresponsabilidade, tão necessária à saúde psíquica e das relações humanas. Partindo desse paradoxo, a autora transita entre a filosofia, a psicologia e a própria autoajuda, refletindo sobre o papel das classificações, tanto dos livros quanto das pessoas, e se pergunta como fazer da vida uma obra de arte em uma realidade muitas vezes sufocante, que produz e vende respostas fáceis. Este não é um livro de autoajuda busca respostas mais complexas a essa angústia, valendo-se tanto das vivências da autora quanto de seus estudos em filosofia, cultura e psicologia junguiana.

In a reality marked by violence and illness, self-help can be a dangerous mechanism of escape and a reinforcement of inequalities. At the same time, the term carries the idea of self-responsibility, which is so necessary for psychic health and human relationships. Starting from this paradox, the author navigates through philosophy, psychology, and self-help itself, reflecting on the role of classifications—of both books and people—and asks how to make life a work of art in an often suffocating reality that produces and sells easy answers. This is not a self-help book seeks more complex answers to this anguish, drawing on both the author’s lived experiences and her studies in philosophy, culture, and Jungian psychology.

Vivendo uma vida caótica no Rio de Janeiro, perto de completar quarenta anos, uma mulher perde sua principal referência familiar: a avó Célia. O falecimento da avó, que desde a adolescência da neta contava para ela as histórias da família, é a gota d’água para uma crise que a leva a um mergulho em suas raízes. Nesse caminho, ela se depara com a trajetória de seu tataravô José e com sua herança portuguesa, dando início à uma jornada em direção à sua própria verdade e liberdade.

Todos esses acontecimentos são registrados por ela em um livro, mistura de diário e romance de costumes, onde narra a sua jornada e as histórias de seus antepassados de forma entrelaçada. Mas seu livro revela mais do que a sua própria vida: ele traz as angústias das primeiras décadas do nosso século e oferece um panorama histórico e social da classe média brasileira durante todo o século XX, tendo a cidade fluminense de Petrópolis como principal cenário e o mar como a grande estrada que conecta seis gerações de uma família desde a Ilha Terceira dos Açores, em Portugal, até o Brasil de hoje.

Living a chaotic life in Rio de Janeiro and approaching her fortieth birthday, a woman loses her most important family anchor: her grandmother, Célia. The passing of her grandma, who had recounted the family’s history to her since adolescence, becomes the catalyst for a crisis that plunges her deep into her roots. Along this path, she uncovers the life story of her great-great-grandfather José and her Portuguese heritage, igniting a journey toward her own truth and freedom.

All these events are recorded by her in a book, a blend of a diary and a novel of manners, where she narrates her journey and the stories of her ancestors in an intertwined narrative. But her book reveals more than just her own life: it captures the anxieties of the first decades of our century and offers a historical and social panorama of the Brazilian middle class throughout the 20th century, with the city of Petrópolis as the main setting and the sea as the great road connecting six generations of a family from Terceira Island, in Portugal, to the contemporary Brazil.
